Jecheon City is the home of Cheongpung Myeongwol, which means ˇ°fresh wind and bright moon.ˇ± It is located in the northern region of Chungcheongbukdo, somewhere between Charyong Mountains and Sobaek Mountains. It borders Munkyeong City to the south, and Wonju City and Youngwol-gun to the north. Jecheon which is located on the western part of Chungchongbuk-do province has a land area equal to 882.47 square kilometers. It comprises 11.90% of the North Chungcheong province(7,431.50§´).
The climate of Jecheon has four clearly distinguished seasons(spring, summer, fall and winter). The annual average temperature is 11.1ˇÉ and the temperature range is highly variable the hottest being 25.4ˇÉ in August and the coldest averaging around -2.3ˇÉ in January. Annual average precipitation in 2006 amounts to 1,719.8mm.
Located in the central region of the country, Jecheon is the hub center of the nation's transportation where Jungang Expressway and Dongseo Expressway(under construction) are connected. The area is well established with basic facilities to be of service to railway networks (Jungang railway, Chungbuk railway, and Tebaek railway). These convenient transportation systems make available easy access to every living sphere of the nation.
It is well known for its beautiful environment created by the harmony of Mt. Woraksan National Park and Cheongpung Lake. Historic relics from the Paleolithic Age to Joseon Dynasty are spread throughout the city of Jecheon. Jecheon-si has the oldest reservoir in Korea, Uirimji, Mt. Woraksan National Park, Chungju Dam, Cheongpung Culture Complex, Songgye Valley, and the Baeron Seongji (Catholic Holy Place) and many more. In particular, seasonal festivals such as Jechoen Uibyeongje (Festival for the Loyal Troops) will surely give people pleasure and excitement.
